What is in fast food? and how to make it work FOR you!
The most common excuse that I hear with regards to nutrition is always how hard it is to eat properly when out and about, or out of town. Most commonly, nutritional misbehavior stems from business meetings when a client dinner could mean getting the account or not. I wanted to put together a small list of rules to follow when going out to eat. it’s not as hard as you think. You also, don’t need to look like a weirdo. In most cases I would say that your health is something to take pride in, and the fact that you take care of yourself should be a sign to your business associate that you will take care of everything else as well.

What is portion control? and how does your body really respond?
The rules of any nutrition plan usually are what make or break the plan in the first place. Strict adherence will determine the relative success or failures one encounters when embarking on one of these nutritional missions. One of my favorite plans include the Paleolithic diet. While the premise is solid, in that one can eliminate any foods that the caveman didn’t have access to and their life will be more prosperous because of it, there are always exceptions to the rule. However one must know the rules in order to break them properly. For instance, I regularly recommend foods for people that are not necessarily a part of the caveman diet, because I see some benefit for that specific individual. By the same token, I would like to expound upon a point made by many “paleo gurus” which state that calorie counting/portion control is unnecessary. Their reasoning lies behind the thought process that when the body is given the proper nutrients and foods, anyone should be able to auto regulate their hunger levels. After all, the caveman never counted calories, so why should we? I tend to agree with this thought process, however it really is an overly idealistic view. In a perfect world this is how nutrition would work. Today we have many more challenges to deal with than caveman did, and this is why sometimes the whole thought process needs a little bit more in order for it “sit” well with me. Here are a few examples of when this auto regulatory system can fail miserably:

4 reasons to do an organic acids test to evaluate your current health status.
If I owned a factory that had to produce cars in a most efficient manner, it goes without saying that I need to have on hand the highest quality parts and the manpower (or the right machinery) to do it. In the case that I am missing some of these parts, a very ingenious team of workers would find whatever materials necessary to produce the product albeit not as high a quality. This is almost exactly how our body works.
I give clients this analogy all the time:
Reasons your injury rehab isnt working!
The Central Nervous System, is our central command. It governs our feelings, emotions, hormone regulation, you name it and the CNS is the main star player in most of our body’s functions. With regards to strength training, while you may think you are training just your muscles, a large part of lifting heavy things, is to improve the way that the electrical signals reach your connective tissue. When the connection/drive becomes greater, it increases the total amount of strength one has regardless of size of the musculature.
Training for CNS efficiency even helps bodybuilders pack on more size, as when they train this way, it increases the number of muscle fibers that fire in response to a lifting stimulus. These CNS efficiency boost “cycles” are now being programmed into more and more bodybuilder periodization schemes, as spending more time doing CNS training will improve the body’s function and ability to grow exponentially. What I am saying is that every part of the performance enhancement industry is starting to pay more and more attention to the CNS as, with what the name implies, it’s CENTRAL importance to every part of human function.
Now that I’ve made it explicitly clear how having an efficient CNS is vital to success, what happens when these neural connections become dysfunctional? Read more…
